It’s been another fun and busy week with lots going on in a lot of different areas. Here’s a quick update:

ARCs for TIME BETWEEN US are being printed right now, and should be available in March. I’m trying not to think about it because every time I do, I find myself distractedly staring off into space wearing this goofy perma-grin. Someday soon a box will arrive on my doorstep, and my heart will start racing, and I won’t be able to find the box cutter because someone didn’t put it back where it belongs (probably me), and so I’ll just rip it open with my bare hands to get to the goods. I can’t even imagine how it’s going to feel to see those books inside, but suffice it to say I’m pretty excited. Rest assured, the moment will be documented with photos. Perhaps even video.

I’ve also been having a blast on the music front. There are two sets of lyrics in TBU, and in order to include them we needed permission from two very amazing bands and their respective labels. It’s funny, I completely remember writing these lyrics into the book for the first time, and thinking about how cool it would be if I actually got to work with the bands to secure their approval. And well, that day came (and lasted about three months). I got to work with them (well, their management, not them directly) and after a lot of back and forth—sharing details about the book and showing them the actual pages that included their beautiful, perfect lines—they agreed! As a bonus, I was also able to license one of my all time favorite songs from a third, equally amazing band as music for the book trailer. I know I’m witholding a lot of details here, but once I sign the contracts and everything’s official-official, I’ll shout all about it. I still can’t believe it’s all coming together so perfectly.

There’s also some exciting momentum on the film adaptation, and while it isn’t official yet, it makes me feel like a movie might actually, really, truly happen someday. Stay tuned!

Most important, I’m writing. Boy, am I writing. I’m writing at my desk, in coffee shops, in the school parking lot, on my laptop, on my phone, and on the new iPad Mike and the kids gave me for my birthday (thanks again, loves!). I honestly have no idea if my second book currently rocks, sucks, or does something in between, but after months and months of revising and fine-tuning TBU, I’m just overjoyed to be creating something totally new, completely from scratch. Have I mentioned how much I love this job?

Tomorrow night, I’m headed to Books, Inc. in San Francisco to meet Marissa Meyer (CINDER) and Megan Miranda (FRACTURE). If you’re in the Bay Area, stop by and join the party!
