I just found out that EVERY LAST WORD has been sent off to the printer, and it’s in the process of being transformed from a story told on really large sheets of paper into a real-life hardbound book that will sit on lovely bookshelves on June 16. That’s exactly three months from today. Happy sigh.
Now that the book is officially done (ooh, that felt good to type), hyperionteens has given me the green light to show you the full book jacket.
And to give away some signed advance copies (thank you, Hyperion!).
Whitney Manger designed this striking cover. She made some important changes since the original reveal, but the things I loved most about it are still there, and I’m even more thrilled with it now. Thank you, Whitney!
We hope you like it, too.
Before I dive in… You’ve heard about my main character’s obsession with the number 3, right?
Things in threes are important to Sam, and all her rituals revolve around it. For example, she loves music. She’s especially fixated on lyrics. So whenever she makes a playlist, she finds three words in one of the songs that encapsulate the collection, and those three words become the playlist’s title.
In that spirit, I titled each chapter with three words taken from that chapter’s text. Like this: stitched into me. three little chords. whatever this is. way too much. this one boy.
In Sam’s honor, I’m going to see if I can do the rest of this jacket reveal in three-word phrases.
She’d want that. Think I can? I’m feeling confident.
Here we go.
THE FULL JACKET:
A textured wall. Words on paper. Simple and elegant. Lovely book wrapping. Let’s zoom in.
HERE’S THE COVER:
Larger paper scraps. (Scraps have meaning.) Gorgeous new blue! Blue, like water. (Sam’s a swimmer.) Pretty hand-lettered font. Three word title. Three name author. (That’s a coincidence.)
AND THE BACK:
Excerpt from story. Insight into Sam. New paper scrap. Big “what if?” Goodness, these blurbs. Ooh… bar scan.
INSIDE FRONT FLAP:
Sam discovers something. A secret room. Interesting new people. A quirky girl. With snarky tees. A swoony boy. With a guitar. Seriously, a guitar. He writes songs. He’s super cute. But… there’s history. Are you intrigued?
INSIDE BACK FLAP:
Stuff about me. What’s not here? I love words. I love storytelling. It’s my getaway. It’s my therapy. It’s my passion.
Hey, you too? Use your words. Write them down. Let them out. Speak, be brave. Pass it on.
IT’S YOUR TURN…
Want a book? I’ve got three. Three signed ARCs. Three random winners. Yes, open internationally.
WHAT YOU DO:
Share your words. Just three words. Make them count. Have some fun.
Words that inspire. Interesting song lyrics. A favorite poem.
Go overboard creatively. Go for simplicity. It’s your call.
Write them down. Snap a picture. Shoot a video. Whatever moves you.
Here’s an example:
